Globally, we now produce more than 85,000 different chemicals, many of which end up in our drinking water. Chemicals are used to manufacture 96% of consumer products; the average adult uses nine products per day containing 126 different chemicals. Fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics used in agriculture and farming are also a part of our water environment.
